PUBLIC SCHOOLS

Schools can have a massive impact on where you search for a new home and can often be the driving force. Williamson County, Tennessee is recognized nationally as an excellent school district while Nashville has many exciting private school options. As parents ourselves, we are very familiar with the local school systems and are happy to help with any questions you may have.

There are two public school districts within Williamson County:

WILLIAMSON COUNTY SCHOOLS (WCS)

Williamson County School district is by far the larger district of the two. There are approximately 41,500 students enrolled in Pre K to 12th Grade across 51 schools: With 11 high schools, 11 middle schools and 27 elementary schools.

Q. What’s the average ACT score in Williamson County Schools?

The district’s latest graduating class posted an ACT composite score of 25.3 which is well above the State’s average of 20 and the national average of 20.3.

Q. How does Williamson County Schools compare with other school systems?

Williamson County is the leading school district in Tennessee and one of the top in the nation. Eight of Williamson County high schools are ranked within the top 50 schools in the state while Brentwood High and Ravenwood High are amongst the best public schools in the USA.

Q. How do I find out which schools a property is zoned for within Williamson County?

Step 1. Go to www.wcs.edu

Step 2. On the home page, scroll down and click on “Buses and Zoning”

Step 3. Scroll down to Quick Links “Find Your Zoned School & Bus Stop Information”

Step 4. Enter the property street address and zip code on the left hand side under Search.

Q. Can our home be re-zoned for another Williamson County school?

Yes. If you buy a home in Williamson County it’s possible your school zone could change. However you would not be re-zoned to a different school district. Due to massive population growth within Williamson County new schools are under construction and periodic re-zoning is required.

FRANKLIN SPECIAL SCHOOL DISTRICT (FSSD)

Franklin Special School District is located in Franklin and is comprised of 5 elementary and 3 middle schools, totaling 3,850 students. Upon completion of middle school, Franklin Special School District students go on to attend a Williamson County High School.

Elementaries K to 4 : Franklin, Johnson, Liberty, Moore and Poplar Grove

Middle Schools : Freedom Intermediate (5-6), Freedom Middle (7-8), Poplar Grove Middle (5-8)

Q. How does Franklin Special School District differ from Williamson County Schools?

FSSD, as the name suggests, is specific to the City of Franklin. At nearly 4,000 students it’s approximately one tenth the size of WCS and only goes up to eighth grade.

Q. What is the average ACT score in Franklin Special School District?

The district only goes up to eighth grade with five elementary and three middle schools. Therefore ACT results don’t apply.

Q. If we buy within Franklin Special School District can we choose to attend a WCS school instead?

No. If your children attend pre-K through eighth grade and you live in an area of Franklin zoned for FSSD you cannot elect to attend Williamson County Schools. However upon ninth grade FSSD students will all enter Williamson County High Schools.

DAVIDSON COUNTY PRIVATE INDEPENDENT SCHOOLS

Many of our area’s oldest and largest private schools are actually located in Nashville, Davidson County. This presents one of two options for families favoring these schools:

#1 Live in Nashville. There are many wonderful areas such as Belle Meade, West Meade and Green Hills to name just a few. We cover all these areas and would love to assist you find the perfect home close to the school of your choice.

#2 Live in Williamson and commute. The school you select will definitely impact where you might wish to house hunt to avoid lots of driving. Although most of the schools featured below offer a morning bus service from various locations, distance to the school will certainly be a factor you’ll want to consider.
